Artist Statement:
Clay's nature relates best to small forms and to a great sensitivity in the handling of the surfaces. These qualities attracted me as I'm most interested in the expression of intimate themes such as serenity, acceptance and the gentle communication that can exist between two people. It is important to show the gentle and romantic side of men. For years, militants have categorized men in general as violent and abusive. There has been little in the way of a moderating voice in the visual arts to balance this view. This I've tried to do in my sculptures. These are nurturing expressions.
